VitalSource has long been committed to increasing student success through easy access to affordable content. We also believe that if you can, you must improve learning for students and expand educational opportunities for all learners. Of course, we are not alone in this view and it is the reason many companies have built assessment-rich course materials.

new_library_devices_BookshelfThe Bookshelf® team is excited to give our users a very special gift this holiday season: a brand-new Bookshelf Library! Our loyal users have seen the evolution of Bookshelf over the years from a simplistic reader to an interactive study center. As time has passed, the way we interact with websites and apps has evolved. With this in mind, we’ve remodeled our library to mimic new user habits to improve the student learning experience and enable student success. This set of updates is designed to help organize content and reduce overall distractions in the study center to ensure studying is more efficient and students have what they need to ace that test!

So, what’s new?

The most recent title will now be more prominently displayed so students can easily jump back into their reading without any distractions.

Access Codes Faster

Courseware purchases now have custom book cards so students can quickly grab their access codes. Now students can access their courseware much more quickly and get into their assigned content earlier in the course.

Content Clusters

Placing all books into streamlined sections helps declutter the library, allowing for the most recent books to be prominently featured while putting those older unused titles easily out of sight, but always available. This means students can have a seamless and organized experience to quickly access the content they’re using in the current semester.

Search & Filter Come Together

As Bookshelf grew, our abilities to search and filter became more and more robust, leading to multiple bars and filters that act similarly. To streamline searching, we have combined these features so students can get exactly what they need without having to fiddle with a bunch of settings.

Easy Access to Assignments

Assignments were previously part of the book card as a badge, making them hard to find. Now, assignments are prominently displayed with a dedicated cluster—students can easily and clearly see the books and readings assigned to them. Students can simply click on the assignments badge on a title to see all the assigned readings for that specific title. They can also click the “All Assignments” card to see the readings available for all assigned content.

Study Stats

Students work hard, and they can now see exactly how many titles they opened in the last month. This gives a more personalized learning experience for students as well as more autonomy over their learning experience.

Keep an eye out for these updates starting this week. In the meantime, we will continue to work hard to make sure Bookshelf is the best tool it can be for students.
