Innovative, adaptive technology will help students learn and retain concepts in context
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - VitalSource Technologies Inc., an Ingram Content Group company and a leading educational technology company, today announced an initiative with Cerego, the standard for personalized learning, that pioneers a new approach to personalized reading through their e-textbook platform, VitalSource Bookshelf®.
"This joint effort represents a new approach to learning personalization in higher education," said Kent Freeman, COO, VitalSource. "Together, we expect to deliver interactivity and personalization that will positively impact student engagement and success, and help students learn more effectively."
The new addition to VitalSource Bookshelf will turn studying into a personalized learning experience that is adaptive and tailored to draw students' attention to the material they need to know at a time that is most effective. Students can access digital content on iPad, Android and Kindle devices with VitalSource Bookshelf. They can also use Cerego's mobile application to progress their studies on the go, anytime and anywhere.
"Cerego is thrilled to be a meaningful part of this radical new extension of personalized learning," said Andrew Smith Lewis, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Cerego. "Until now, the potential for personalization in reading has remained untapped. We read to learn, and the way we comprehend, understand, and interact with that information shouldn't be a one-way, static experience. Our work with VitalSource sets out to change that."
The first release of the program, scheduled for early 2016, will power closer interactivity with content for students and instructors. VitalSource is currently recruiting launch partners for the initial release.
"VitalSource is rooted in innovation and accessibility and personalization is a component that we believe will fundamentally improve both the student and instructor experience," said Freeman. "We're confident that with this initiative, we are going to once again pave new ground in how institutions can help ensure the success of all of their students."
