RALEIGH, NC – The Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA) has awarded VitalSource® a 2023 CODiE Award for “Best Use of Artificial Intelligence in Ed Tech” for Bookshelf CoachMe™, its AI-powered study coach built within the company’s Bookshelf® platform. The SIIA CODiE Awards is the only peer-recognized program in the business and ed tech industries honoring excellence in software, education, information, and media products.

“Thank you to the SIIA committee for recognizing the value of Bookshelf CoachMe and its transformative impact on teaching and learning,” said Mike Hale, Ph.D., Chief Learning Officer at VitalSource. “Our teams have always been dedicated to ensuring students get the content they need, where they need it, most affordably, equipped with tools that help students learn effectively. It is an honor to be recognized for that work.”

Bookshelf CoachMe’s industry-leading technology uses AI to identify important learning content, create relevant and academically rigorous practice questions directly from the text, and place those questions alongside the eText. Bookshelf CoachMe’s Content Improvement Service monitors and evaluates response data and automatically replaces underperforming questions, the first system of its kind to continually improve formative practice in real time.

This was the second time this month that VitalSource has been recognized for its work to develop Bookshelf CoachMe. In early June, VitalSource and Iowa State University (ISU) received 1EdTech’s Silver Learning Impact Award program for their innovative research partnership examining the effect of Bookshelf CoachMe on teaching and learning. Their award-winning project entry highlights the compelling early data from a series of pilots conducted at ISU that monitored student engagement when Bookshelf CoachMe was incorporated into the course. In one course, mean textbook use tripled over the prior semester, and in a survey, 95.9% of students who used the assigned practice reported finding the questions helpful to their learning and preparation for assessments.

Bookshelf CoachMe has generated more than 2 million unique study questions and has been used by hundreds of thousands of students since its launch over a year ago. To learn more about Bookshelf CoachMe, click here
