Today we announced that VitalSource has acquired Akademos, a privately held company in Norwalk, CT and a leader in building technology to create efficient, cost-effective course materials delivery solutions.
VitalSource’s goal has always been to build and provide technology that supports student, campus store and institutional success. This acquisition accelerates VitalSource’s ability to deliver on that promise by providing more comprehensive services and next-generation tools to our customers.
This acquisition greatly accelerates and enhances VerbaOne, our recently announced EA program for independent campus stores. The course materials market has been transformed in recent years by digital-first, day-one access programs, including Inclusive Access (IA) and the more comprehensive Equitable Access (EA) model, a program that offers course materials at a predictable, flat-rate for students. Acquiring Akademos’ distribution capabilities and analytics technology enhances VitalSource’s digital-first offerings and provides more complete digital and physical solutions, better enabling VitalSource to support store and student success.
VitalSource and Akademos have a long history of working together to make course content access better and easier for students across the United States. This acquisition is a great fit for our business, for our team, and for our customers and partners.
We welcome the Akademos team to VitalSource and look forward to building the future of course content delivery and access together.
